A Diverse and Rich Legal Background: The Journey of Anthony J. Bologna

Anthony J. Bologna is a trial lawyer and strategic advisor with deep experience in litigation, municipal governance, and complex business disputes. He has tried more than 50 jury trials and has handled thousands of hearings and contested proceedings, bringing a courtroom-tested approach to every matter—from early case assessment through trial and appeal. His non-jury trial experience includes bench trials, administrative proceedings and a number of facilitations before retired judges.
Anthony began his career in public service as a County Prosecutor, where he built the foundation for his trial practice through intensive courtroom work and high-volume litigation. That early experience sharpened his ability to develop persuasive case themes, examine witnesses, and make clear, disciplined arguments to judges and juries.
After public service, Anthony transitioned into the private sector and served as General Counsel and owner of a Tier 1 automotive enterprise. That role expanded his perspective beyond pure litigation to include business operations, risk management, contract strategy, and negotiation—experience he now applies when counseling companies, executives, and entrepreneurs in disputes where legal outcomes and business realities are closely linked. He routinely represents clients in commercial litigation, shareholder and ownership disputes, contract claims, fiduciary-duty matters, and other high-stakes conflicts where careful strategy and leverage matter.
His business litigation and arbitration practice includes the successful representation of public and private companies, as well as individuals, in a broad range of complex disputes, including unlawful and unfair business practices, property disputes, land use and zoning, eminent domain / condemnation actions, negligence, civil rights, individual and next of kin cemetery rights, restrictive covenant and non-compete matters, shareholder oppression claims, breach of contract actions, and professional malpractice and fraud cases.
Anthony also maintains a substantial municipal practice, advising and representing municipalities and governmental entities on governance, compliance, and litigation risk. In addition, he counsels private and corporate clients interacting with—or in disputes against—municipalities and other public bodies, including matters involving permitting and licensing, zoning and land use approvals, code enforcement, public contracting and bid protests, development agreements, FOIA/OMA compliance, and litigation arising from municipal decisions.

Anthony has litigated Open Meetings Act matters through Michigan’s appellate courts. He served as lead counsel in a recent Michigan Supreme Court case against the City of Warren, and he handled Court of Appeals matters against the City of Westland and the City of Royal Oak in which the Court of Appeals found the municipalities violated the Open Meetings Act. His municipal work also includes charter and ordinance interpretation, procurement and contracting, employment and personnel matters, and land use and zoning disputes—combining technical legal analysis with practical, solutions-oriented guidance.
Across his practice, Anthony has recovered millions of dollars for clients through verdicts, settlements, and negotiated resolutions. He approaches matters with an emphasis on preparation, credibility, and efficiency—building strong records, focusing on the key legal and factual issues, and tailoring strategies to the client’s objectives.
Anthony’s professional leadership includes service with the American Bar Association, where he was the former Chair of the ABA Real Property Condemnation Committee and Vice Chair of the Real Property Land Use and Zoning Committee. He has also been recognized by peers as a top corporate counsel for multiple consecutive years.
As principal of Legal Consulting, PLLC, Anthony brings clients a combination of extensive courtroom experience, business insight, and public-sector knowledge. Whether the goal is to resolve a dispute efficiently or to take a matter through trial, he provides direct, practical counsel designed to protect clients’ interests and deliver measurable results.
